FUNCTIONAL PRACTITIONERS

DR. SUMMEIYA

General Practitioner

I am very excited to bring twenty years of experience, ten of them practicing Functional Medicine, to my practice at Seed.

I have completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Unani-Tibb from the University of Western Cape and a Diploma in Regenerative and Integrative Medicine from American Association of Antiaging and Regenerative Medicine.

My vast experience in my private practice allows me to provide care for a wide variety of conditions including auto-immune and hormone imbalances. My areas of interest include women’s health, building a practice around alleviating menopausal and peri-menopausal symptoms and optimizing fertility. I’ve worked in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Canada and use a holistic evidence-based approach to restoring the balance in a patient's health by exploring, energy, sleep, appetite, mood as well relying on advanced diagnostics and biomarkers to paint a complete picture of the patient. I can draw on my functional medicine training as well as my education in using an Unani-Tibb approach to offer various treatment options to my patients. My priority is improving the quality of life for my patients using a functional medicine approach.

I have developed a highly intuitive practice built on forming therapeutic alliances with my patients. A natural problem solver, I attentively record a patients’ history and chooses tests to gather relevant clues so that I can visualize the big picture. I utilize a multilayered and holistic approach to make a detailed assessment, set therapeutic goals and tailor individualized management plans that incorporate predominantly food, natural products and lifestyle changes. I consider my patients as partners in health and enjoy educating them about the interconnectedness of their different systems; acknowledging my patient as a whole: mind, body, and soul.

Each treatment plan I design is tailored to identify and correct root imbalances, supporting long-term health and sustainable change. From digestive dysfunction to weight loss resistance, chronic fatigue, and inflammation, I help individuals connect the dots between their symptoms, lifestyle, and biology.
