About Red Light Therapy

Red Light Therapy (RLT), also known as photobiomodulation, low-level laser therapy, or cold laser therapy, is a non-invasive method that contributes to pain relief and reduces inflammation, parallel to the enhanced healing and tissue repair processes. It uses 630nm, 660nm and 850nm wavelength LED lights. This type of light doesn’t produce heat and unlike UV radiation, it doesn’t damage the skin. While you lie down in the pod, the light is absorbed through the skin, and targets the cell's mitochondria, improving ATP (energy) production. This stimulates collagen production, which gives skin its structure, strength and elasticity. It also increases fibroblast production, which makes collagen. Collagen is a component of connective tissue that builds skin. RLT also increases blood circulation to the tissue and reduces inflammation in cells.

Each session lasts 15 minutes and you will be assisted by one of the staff nurses at the beginning and the end of each session. All you have to do is lie down and relax. This can be a great opportunity for you to enjoy your favorite playlist, podcast, or meditation. You can wear your pods for optimal sound quality. You will always have a call button in case you need further assistance.

Recommendations

Protect your eyes using the goggles we provide you.

You are supposed to remove your clothes and keep your underwear in order to let your skin absorb as many red lights as possible.

You can cover the areas you don’t want to expose (using a bra if you don’t want to lose fat cells within your breast area)

Contraindications

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Active skin cancer

Other active cancers require an assessment before recommending the treatment

Patients with active cancer must get permission from their physician to use the Prism Light Pod.

Red light therapy exposes the skin to levels of light that are not harmful — unlike UV light coming from the sun. Because of this, there is virtually no risk of side effects from undergoing RLT. However, misuse or too much exposure to the treatment can lead to: Damage to the skin and skin burns: If the skin is exposed to the pod surface for a too long time this can burn the skin. This is prevented by following our treatment length recommendations and not exceeding 15 minutes per session. Damage to unprotected eyes: The red light can affect your retina in the long term. This can be prevented by using protective goggles that will be offered by our staff.
